Auction News 3/23/21

Oh What a Night!

Thank you to our St. John community for making the 2021 Auction such a wonderful event. Maybe I’m Amazed by the way you turned in raffle tickets, cheered through the drive thru, and bid online. We were truly Dancing in the Streets as we watched the Fund-a-Need donations pour in. We Built This Auction on Rock n Roll and you made it a success.
Thank You Friends, for all you did.

Preliminary results show the total amount raised through the Auction exceeded $360,000, including over $150,000 in Fund-a-Need donations.  Corporate matching funds and additional donations continue to be received.  It’s No Surprise you helped us blow by every goal we had! Thank you, St. John Community!

Ethan Stowell Cooking Classes
Did you miss out on a silent auction item? It’s not too late to contribute. Join Ethan Stowell for a virtual cooking class featuring three of his signature pastas – Gnocchi Telefono, Tonnarelli cacio e Pepe, and Rigatoni with Italian sausage, tomato and marjoram. Guests will receive ingredients to make all three pastas, and will also get to enjoy seasonal mozzarella, little gem salad, cookies and a bottle of wine. Serves 2 people.  Ethan is generously donating these classes to the school – so the school will keep all of the proceeds. Please help us maximize this donation while participating in a fun cooking adventure!  Invite friends, family, or consider giving as a gift.  Classes are being offered on 3 dates:

·         Saturday April 17, 6:00pm-8:00pm
·         Friday April 23, 6:00pm – 8:00pm.
·         Saturday May 8, 6:00pm – 8:00pm.
·
Guests will pick up their meal kits on the day of their scheduled class at Bramling Cross from 2:00pm-5:00pm.  Don’t wait! Sign up here to reserve your spot!

Auction Item Pick Up
Your auction winnings will be available for pick on Thursday, March 25 and Monday, March 29 from 1:00 – 3:00pm. Please email fundraising@st-johnschool.org if you cannot make it on either of these days to make other arrangements. Please Note: “Buy Now” Items including Etched Wine Glasses, 1st Grade Shopping Totes, and Preschool Greeting Cards will be available for pick up at a later date.  If you purchased an Ethan Stowell virtual cooking class, a zoom invite will be emailed to you.

Save the Date!
Auction 2022 – the theme may be a mystery but the date isn’t! Mark your calendars for April 8, 2022.

Auction Chairs
This band is going to explore some solo careers for a little while, so until we’re paid a hefty sum for a reunion tour, we need some new talent! Interested in leading the auction next year? Reach out to any member of the Auction team or school administration. We’d love to chat with you! We know the next team is going to lift this auction higher than it’s ever been before.

Fund-a-Need
The school is graciously asking you to make a gift to Fund-A Need: Support for our 2021-22 operating budget. Opening our school for in-person instruction came with unanticipated costs. The unplanned expenses of operating our school during the pandemic have led to COVID related costs totaling more than $100,000.  As we have all learned from the pandemic, we cannot predict what the future holds. The school must remain prepared for the unanticipated realities created by this pandemic. Your support for the 2021 Fund-a-Need will help us Rock On into the new school year.

Raise the Paddle

We are truly grateful for the support the St. John community has given us in the past.  Because of people like you, we are able to fulfill our mission and, through Fair Share, be the most accessible Catholic school in Seattle.  As you know, the unexpected expenses of the pandemic have created stress on the St. John operating budget, with COVID-related costs totaling more than $100,000.  These expenses were necessary to return students to on-campus learning while ensuring that the safety of our teachers, staff, and students remained paramount.

As our auction will be virtual, with a shorter program than when held in person, we would love to have your commitment prior to the auction date.  This will allow us to showcase the generosity of our community and thank all those who are giving to St. John to ensure that our school can continue to be an inclusive Catholic community, inspiring moral development, academic excellence and the courage to act for the common good.

St. John was Blowin’ in the Wind at their 1st Concerts

The number one artist the St. John community saw at their first concert was Bob Dylan (with 3 votes), followed by The Beach Boys, Def Leopard, Kenny Rogers with Dolly Parton, New Kids on the Block, Ray Charles, and Willie Nelson, each with 2 votes.

Thanks as always for participating in the poll.  Full results are available on our Facebook page. Stay tuned next week for a Rock ‘n’ Roll trivia quiz!

Do You Have Auction Questions? We’ve Got Auction Answers!

Forget what your procurement commitment is? Unsure what a class project should be? Want to know what an intentionally virtual auction means? Use our Auction Question form to send us your questions. We’ll not only respond to your question, but use these to produce a FAQ for the entire community.

Need Procurement Ideas?

The best way to brainstorm procurement ideas is to think about what you would like to bid on at an auction. Wine? Dinner? Boat rides? Weekends away? Gift cards to your favorite PhinneyWood business?

If you’re still stumped, or just want to click and send, try our Amazon Wish List – purchase an item on our Auction wish list, and it will be delivered directly to the school! See a big ticket item on our Amazon Wish List?  Team up with your bestie and purchase (or procure) it together! Please complete your group procurement form so all parties get credit for the donation.

Still not sure what to donate? Cash donations are a great way to help out the Auction. You may donate online or send a check payable to St. John School to:

  • 106 N. 79th Street; Seattle, WA 98103

Please reach out to the Auction Team if you have any questions regarding Procurement – we’re here to help! Please also remember to complete your procurement form and email to fundraising@st-johnschool.org or return to the Auction office in the Administrative Building.

Sponsorship
Thank you to our two newest sponsors, Built Square and Overland Real Estate. Add your name to the list –  sponsoring the Auction greatly reduces our costs and allows more money raised to go directly to our school.  If you would like to sponsor the Auction, please visit our sponsorship summary page and complete the sponsorship agreement form.

Auction News 12/1/2020

Mark Your Calendars for a Great Week and an Evening of Rock ‘n’ Roll!

Every year, St. John School holds a spring auction to support our students: to help them become the very best people they can be. The St. John School Auction is not only an important fundraiser — supporting the school’s operating budget — but also a “friendraiser” that connects our community for the benefit of our students.

This year, we invite the St. John community to join us virtually for Rock On St John!, our 2021 Auction. The Auction will kick off with online offerings the week of March 15, 2021, and culminate on Friday, March 19, 2021 — with a livestream program from Fremont Studios!  Dinner packages will be available for purchase and you will have the opportunity to participate in some of your favorite auction traditions with a drive-thru event on auction day!

.Great news – since it is a virtual auction, EVERYONE can take part! Grandparents, friends, neighbors or anyone who would like to support St. John School are invited!

Procurement Needs
We need your help to make the 2021 Auction ROCK!  Because campus activity is limited right now, we prefer you use one of the following contactless ways to procure or donate to the Auction:

  • Monetary Donation: Make a cash donation to help underwrite Auction expenses
  • Monetary Donation to a Package: Help underwrite an amazing package created just for the Auction.
  • Sponsorship: Become a sponsor or solicit a business to become one. Please refer to the sponsorship summary and sponsorship agreement form for more information.
  • Amazon Wish List: Shop our gift registry and your purchase will be shipped directly to St. John in your name.
  • Donate Gift Cards: Mail gift cards to St. John School – what is your favorite Seattle business?

Auction Q&A Session
Do you have questions about procurement, sponsorship, or about the event itself? Join us for an Auction Q&A Zoom meeting on Tuesday, December 15 at 7:00pm. The auction team will be happy to answer your questions!  A Zoom link will be sent out in next week’s Auction News email.  All families are welcome to participate, whether you’re a new or long-standing family of St. John!

Are You Ready to ROCK?

You know the sound, you got the feeling,
You know there’s no going back
It’s all you see, all you believe
You must have that sound
You gotta rock, and get down
Some crazy dreams, make your head spin round
Let’s rock and get down
You heard the word, now it’s all over town
Out in the streets, the kids stand and wait their time
Tell me how do you feel, do you wanna rock tonight
Are you ready, are you ready to rock
Tell me you’re ready, tell me you’re ready to rock!

It’s Auction Week – Are You READY?

It’s hard to believe that after all the hard work of so many, and in the midst of such nuttiness all around us, it is time for the St John School Auction. While we cannot celebrate in person this year, we look forward to celebrating with all of you virtually. Each one of us still has the opportunity to celebrate our Eagle Spirit and contribute to our fundraising goal of $350,000. Money raised goes directly to our school’s operating budget.

The school is asking you to support the 2020 Fund-A-Need: Replacement of original school windows on the north side of the main building. This multi-year initiative, starting in 2006, to replace all school windows can be completed with your help. Our targeted goal for Fund-a-Need is $100,000+. A St. John family has generously agreed to match up to $50,000 in pledges. Please make a gift to Fund-a-Need so we can trigger this amazing match! All money donated to the 2020 Fund-a-Need will be combined with an existing window budget reserve to complete the projected $410,000 project. Thank you for your generosity and for Being True to Our School.   Thank you to the Merlino family and Rainbows & Unicorns Entertainment LLC for this fantastic 2020 Fund-a-Need video.

Auction Sneak Peek
We have some amazing items this year!  Take a look at this week’s highlighted items:

Seahawks Ultimate Game Day Experience for Two
“You and a guest will watch a Seahawks game in Club Level seats for a select 2020 game.  Club level seats include early entry to the game, upscale and expanded food and beverage options, complimentary amenities, including gameday programs, hand warmers, etc, gameday photo center with appearances by Seahawks legends, Taima, Boom and more.  You and your guest will also receive an exclusive 15% ProShop discount, a customized “12th Fan” jersey with your name on the back, and one CenturyLink Field Game Day Parking Pass.  Enjoy access to the Verizon Lounge, located at the Sound end of the Delta Sky360 Club. The Verizon Lounge is the proud host of the pregame feast and CenturyLink Field’s premier restaurant for a gourmet buffet-style meal!”

Mrs. Jessup’s 1st Grade Class Art Project

“French artists Matisse and Redouté shared a love of color and a rich respect for the tradition of still-life painting. One gave us lush compositions packed with florals and another dense patterns and flattened perspectives. Ms. Jessup’s 1st grade class imagined what might happen if these two artists created work together. Students constructed hand-painted paper flowers in a Matisse like style and they were arranged in a Redouté like fashion. Resulting in a contemporary take on a timeless tradition.”

Poll Results
St. John loves their John Hughes’ high school movies with Sixteen Candles and The Breakfast Club combining for almost 50% of the vote!

Question of the Week – What Should I Wear to the Auction?
Regardless of the theme, we know St. John parents and community love to get into the Auction spirit.  This year is no different – we are encouraging Auction guests to show their school spirit however they wish and we can’t wait to see it!  Wear a jersey of your favorite school team, your high school band costume, or perhaps your valedictorian regalia. If you would rather skip the jerseys and spirit gear, cocktail attire is a great alternative.  Dress however you feel most comfortable and be ready for a fun night!

Free Dress Auction Item
Did you buy “Free Dress for Two Fridays” at last year’s Auction? Auction Free Dress days will be November 22 and January 10.  If you did not have a chance to purchase the Free Dress days but would like to, you may do so here.

Thank you
Thank to our volunteers who helped out at the St. Al’s Auction last Saturday night: Kristen Capka, Telia Oines, Monica Overby, and Susan Turner!

Thank you to everyone who dropped of their Auction items yesterday at our first procurement drop off!  Our 2nd procurement turn-in will be on January 15th at the flag pole during morning drop off.  You can also turn in your donations at any time to the Auction office, located in the Administration Building, or the School office.
